Core Competency Committee

Purpose of the Committee

The Core Competency Committee was created in order to review and revise “Core Competencies for Institutional GME Leaders/Designated Institutional Officials.” The members are tasked with updating the Core Competencies for Institutional GME Leaders/Designated Institutional Officials based on changes in the GME environment and the evolving role of the institutional GME leader.

Background

The GRA has developed this monograph to document the extent and kind of responsibilities shouldered by its members and their institutional GME leader-colleagues nationwide, and the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to meet these responsibilities.

The monograph was developed initially by the GRA to guide the first offering of its GME Leadership Development Course in 2004-2005. The GRA views this as an organic document to be modified as indicated by changes in the GME environment-- including ACGME requirements and government regulations-- and in the responsibilities of GME institutional officials.

Charge to the Committee

The committee is organized and overseen by the GRA Steering Committee. The members are tasked with updating the Core Competencies for Institutional GME Leaders/Designated Institutional Officials based on changes in the GME environment and the evolving role of the institutional GME leader. Members will identify competencies that need revision, creation or deletion and ensure version 4 incorporates all elements required by the next accreditation system. Members are also charged with evaluating the current assessment of the competencies to assess if the method is appropriate and requires revision. At the completion of this project, the committee must make a presentation to the GRA Steering Committee and the GRA Membership at-large.
