Charleston Area Medical Center (CAMC)

Sharon Hall serves as the founding President of the CAMC Health Education and Research Institute, Inc. and the Designated Institutional Official (DIO) at Charleston Area Medical Center in Charleston, West Virginia.  The CAMC Institute is designed as the education and research arm of the Charleston Area Medical Center Health System, for which Sharon is responsible for the executive administrative leadership to CAMC Graduate Medical Education and related programs, as well as the CAMC Institute departments and centers of excellence, including: the Center for Health Services and Outcomes Research, Cancer Research Center, Clinical Trials Center, Center for Innovative Learning and Assessment, Department of Professional Continuing Education School of Nurse Anesthesia, and the CAMC University, a corporate leadership development and training initiative. 

Sharon has served in various educational leadership roles in an academic medicine, in both medical school and teaching hospital settings.  Past positions include Manager of Continuing Education for West Virginia University Charleston Division, Director of Continuing Education at CAMC, and Administrator of Organization Development and Training.  These positions encompassed responsibilities at the corporate level for management and leadership development and multiple education and research departments.  She received a Masters from the University Of West Virginia School Of Graduate Studies in Management/Health Care Administration.  She has been in health care education for over 40 years, with 33 of them in medical school and hospital management and leadership roles.  

In 2006, she received the William J. Maier Health Sciences Award, the highest honor bestowed by the West Virginia University Charleston honoring an individual who has made an "outstanding contribution to health education and the advancement of learners”. 

Sharon has been an active member of the GRA for the past 20 years, including serving on the GRA Steering Committee, the GRA Leadership Course Committee, most recently serving as Chair of the GRA Leadership Competency Task Force and GME Leadership Course Advisory Committee.   

Sharon is active in a variety of local, state, and national professional forums.  Current and most recent leadership appointments include:  

  • Chair, AAMC – Group on Resident Affairs Task Force on Leadership Competencies
  • Past Vice Chair and current member of the Mountain State Osteopathic Postgraduate Training Initiative (OPT)
  • Member, West Virginia University Physicians of Charleston, Board of Directors
  • Member, University of Charleston, Board of Advocates, Charleston, West Virginia
  • Past Vice Chair and Chair, United Way of Central West Virginia, Board of Directors, Charleston, West Virginia
  • Past Public member, American Society of Health System Pharmacy, Commission on Credentialing
