Penn Medicine Communications

Describe your communication.
The Penn Medicine Communications department executed an unprecedented slate of activities -- including media relations, social media, publications, and a commemorative book project -- to celebrate the 250th birthday of the nation's first medical school, the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine.

Judges said:
The final product is outstanding—beautifully crafted and presented.

What prompted you to take this on?
The 2014/15 academic year marked a thrilling milestone in American education: the 250th birthday of the nation's first medical school. This presented unique opportunities to tell the story of Penn Medicine's history and its relationship to the present and future of the institution and the field of medicine as a whole.

What was the most successful part of the project?
Publication of a commemorative book, To Spread the Light of Knowledge, which has proven to have versatile appeal for a multitude of audiences: alumni, donors, faculty, students, leadership, and the general public.

What does it mean to you to win?
It's an honor to have this work recognized, since it is a representation of the school's long, trailblazing role in American medical education.
