New Faculty Affairs Collection

GFA Collaborative Toolkit

The GFA Professional Development Subcommittee, in collaboration with MedEdPORTAL, is pleased to announce the launch of GFA Collections.  The objectives of the GFA Collections are:

  • To enhance the implementation of faculty affairs policies and professional development practices by providing faculty affairs deans and administrators with a collection of tangible tools and promising practices that have been critically analyzed and peer-reviewed.
  • To provide the opportunity for faculty affairs deans and staff to develop scholarly contributions to promising practices in faculty affairs through critical analysis of tools or templates developed at one institution that can be adapted for another.

Each submission will have a standard format including a resource (tool, policy, template), along with a Implementation Guide of that resource. The Implementation Guide will involve objectives, a summary of background literature and issues specific to women and underrepresented minority faculty, information and data on its use and implementation, and a critical reflection on its utility and impact.

How can you get involved? There are two ways GFA members can get involved. You can serve as a peer reviewer of submissions and/or submit your work for review and possible publication.

Potential topics include:

  • Faculty and executive recruitment
  • Faculty appointment policies and practices
  • Annual faculty reviews, including post-tenure reviews
  • Promotion and tenure policies and practices
  • Parental leave and part-time faculty policies
  • Senior faculty and retirement policies
  • Faculty governance
  • Grievance policies and procedures
  • Managing faculty communication and resources (websites, social media, etc)
  • Faculty management issues (disruptive or impaired faculty; conflict management)
  • Salary equity and structure
  • Faculty diversity

Watch your email for the RFP and information regarding how to submit. More details to come!
