What was the most impactful part of your entry?
The story “Shiniqua’s miracle” is an incredibly impactful part of the summer 2025 issue of Florida Physician magazine. Through interviews with a patient and her family as well as members of their UF Health care team, the story showcases the harrowing journey of a mother and child brought back from the brink of death thanks to groundbreaking, first-in-Florida, multidisciplinary treatment — showcasing the true impact of an academic medical center. The story further comes to life through original photography and illustrations, showing the power and depth of storytelling that can take place when combining the talents of a full creative team.
What is one thing you learned from your entry/experience?
One of our key challenges was thoughtfully balancing the promotion and protection of the UF College of Medicine’s core missions — patient care, education and research — within a dynamic and closely scrutinized policy and funding environment. For the Florida Physician summer 2025 issue, the rapidly evolving landscape of U.S. higher education, coupled with frequent shifts in regulatory guidance, underscored the importance of close collaboration across institutional teams. Working in concert with colleagues in advancement, alumni relations, government affairs, research affairs and legal ensured our messaging remained aligned, responsive and mission-focused.
