2013 Learning Health System Champion Research Award Winners Webinar Series

The 2013 AAMC Learning Health System Champion and Pioneer Research Awards recognize innovations in medical education, care delivery, research, and diversity and inclusion. The research awards recognize institutions that have implemented or wish to enhance capacity of innovative, system-wide processes that improve the opportunity for research within one or more of three research areas (quality improvement, health equity, and research using data from electronic health records). Champion winners will presented their innovations during the following webinars on 2/3, 2/13, 2/19, and 2/24. Please note that the 2014 LHS Research Award winners' webinars will be posted when they become available.

Education in Quality Improvement and Patient Safety Through Interprofessional Education and Health System Partnerships

Headrick, M.D., M.S., F.A.C.P will discuss creating a laboratory for building and testing innovative educational experiences in quality improvement and patient safety (QI/PS) in the context of a medical school curriculum which states competence in QI/PS as an explicit goal.

Dr. Michael Rothberg describes the success of a residency research program implemented at the Baystate Medical Center. In fulfillment of the ACGME requirement that residents "participate in scholarly activity," Rothberg's team developed a program to address the most commonly sited barriers for resident engagement in research: lack of interest, insufficient technical support, and a paucity of mentors and leadership.
