Translational Science Meeting
March 5-8—The 2019 meeting, which takes place in Washington, DC, aims to “bring together all of the disciplines involved in clinical and translational research, for the shared benefits of networking and education.”

Robert Wood Johnson Foundation—Interdisciplinary Research Leaders Program
March 13—Application due for the Interdisciplinary Research Leaders program, which “seeks teams of researchers and community members who are committed to working together to produce community-relevant, action-oriented research to improve health and well-being.”

AAMC Council of Deans Fellowship Program
March 29—Deadline to apply for the AAMC Council of Deans’ 2019-2020 fellowship program, which was created to enhance the development of future leaders in academic medicine. Senior faculty members who are interested in being considered for deanships in the future, including department chairs and assistant and associate deans, are encouraged to apply. Learn More

March 29—Deadline to submit a nomination for a new member to serve on one of four PCORI advisory panels.

February 27, 2019: The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) oversees initiatives to improve the quality of care through clinical decision support (CDS). In this webinar, Dr. Edwin Lomotan, Medical Officer and Chief of Clinical Informatics for the Health IT Division in the Center for Evidence and Practice Improvement at AHRQ described how the CDS Connect Repository is advancing evidence-based care into practice, presented findings from the project’s first use cases, identified CDS-related funding opportunities available through AHRQ, and highlighted ways stakeholders can contribute to CDS Connect.

November 8, 2018: The National Institutes of Health (NIH) launched the Helping to End Addiction Long-term (HEAL) Initiative in April 2018 to accelerate scientific discovery to stem the opioid public health crisis. In this webinar, Walter J. Koroshetz, MD, Director of the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), discussed the HEAL Initiative’s priorities in pain management research.

Academic Medicine Investment in Medical Research Webinar

In June 2015, ROCC hosted a free webinar designed to help demystify indirect costs and institutional investment in research. Laura Yaeger, Managing Director from Huron Consulting Group, presented survey results from 46 medical schools concerning their total investment in the research mission. The findings illustrated the key components of institutional investment in research including startup packages and bridge funding. Download Slides. 

Research in Residency Meeting

The AAMC and Research on Care Community hosted a meeting on May 28, 2015 which convened teams from institutions interested in enhancing their residency research experience. The goal of the meeting was to create a customized learning environment, matching learners with experts as a means to gather the information and strategies needed to enhance the research experience of their residency programs.
