Health Information Technology (HIT)

The AAMC recognizes the importance of the HIT funding in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA or Recovery Act) to academic medical centers as they strive to become national leaders in the use of electronic health records (EHRs). The "HITECH" provisions of ARRA provide Medicare and Medicaid incentive funding to hospitals, physicians, and other eligible professionals for the "meaningful use" of certified EHRs. Check here frequently for developments related to ARRA and HIT incentives, including EHR certification, technology standards, "meaningful use," quality, HIPAA privacy and security, interoperability of EHRs, e-prescribing, and associated rulemaking and guidance.
