House Energy and Commerce Committee Chair Greg Walden (R-Ore.), Health Subcommittee Chair Michael Burgess, MD, (R-Texas), and Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee Chair Gregg Harper (R-Miss.) Aug. 1 sent letters to nine pharmacies that have contract pharmacy arrangements with 340B covered entities. The letters request more information about their participation in the 340B Drug Pricing Program.
According to the letters, this request is a follow-up to the committee’s previous report on the 340B program [see Washington Highlights, Jan. 12] and a recent Government Accountability Office report on contract pharmacy arrangements [see Washington Highlights, June 29].
The committee is seeking answers to a variety of questions, including the number and types of contract pharmacy arrangements, the process for entering into these arrangements, fees that are recouped for each prescription that is filled, internal reporting to track and manage 340B prescriptions, and how the organizations prevent duplicate discounts and diversions.
