AAMC Responds to ASPE’s Request for Information

January 26, 2018—The AAMC submitted a Jan. 25 comment letter in response to the Health and Human Services (HHS) Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation’s (ASPE) Request for Information, Promoting Healthcare Choice and Competition Across the United States.

HHS requested comments on state and federal laws, regulations, and policies that prevent the development of a health care system that provides high-quality care at affordable prices. The AAMC’s comments focus on ways that the agency could reduce regulatory burden for teaching hospitals and physicians and increase choice and access for patients, including improving reporting requirements under the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act (MACRA, P.L. 114-10), optimizing telehealth, providing for exceptions or safe harbors for Stark and Anti-Kickback laws to facilitate coordinated care, and ensuring transparency of benefits and cost-sharing for plans offered on the individual health insurance exchanges that the Affordable Care Act (ACA,  P.L. 111-148 and P.L. 111-152) established.
