PCORI’s Board of Governors Approves New Study and the Release of Methodology Standards for Public Comment

November 3, 2017—The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) Board of Governors met Oct. 30 to approve funding for a $9 million new study comparing two approaches to managing chronic noncancer pain patients who are on chronic opioid therapy. The additional funding brings PCORI’s investment in opioid-related comparative clinical effectiveness research to over $71 million across 12 studies.

The Board also approved the release of five new PCORI Methodology Standards for public comment. Four of the standards focus on studies of complex interventions, and the fifth standard addresses the development of a data management plan.  Public comments are due by Dec. 29.

Following the Board of Governors meeting, PCORI held its Third Annual Meeting. The theme of the meeting was “Delivering Results, Informing Choices” and it highlighted findings from PCORI’s portfolio of research and brought together over 1,000 stakeholders to discuss issues relevant to comparative effectiveness research and advancing patient-centered health care.
