House Energy and Commerce Committee Chair Greg Walden (R-Ore.) announced that committee members will consider “legislation extending funding for CHIP, community health centers, the Special Diabetes Programs, the National Health Service Corps, Teaching Health Center Graduate Medical Education, and other important public health priorities.”

Oct. 3: Senate Judiciary Committee Hearing on DACA

The Senate Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing on “Oversight of the Administration’s Decision to End Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals.” Witnesses include Chad Readler, acting assistant attorney general, Civil Division, United States Department of Justice; Michael Dougherty, assistant secretary, Border Immigration and Trade Policy, Office of Strategy, Policy, and Plans, Department of Homeland Security; and James McCament, acting director, United States Citizenship and Immigration Services, Department of Homeland Security.

Oct. 3: House Rules Committee Hearing on FY 2018 House Budget Resolution
3 p.m.; H-313, the Capitol, Washington, D.C.
The House Rules Committee will meet to formulate a rule on H.Con.Res.71, establishing the congressional budget for the United States Government for FY2018 and setting forth the appropriate budgetary levels for FY2019 through FY2027.

Oct. 5: Senate HELP Hearing on the Federal Response to the Opioid Crisis
10 a.m.; 430 Dirksen Senate Office Building, Washington, D.C.
The Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee will hold a full committee hearing on "The Federal Response to the Opioid Crisis." Witnesses include: Elinore F. McCance-Katz, MD, PhD, assistant secretary for mental health and substance use, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration; Brenda Fitzgerald, M]D, director, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and Administrator, Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry; Francis Collins, MD, PhD, director, National Institutes of Health; and Scott Gottlieb, MD, commissioner, Food and Drug Administration.
