AAMC Urges More Funds for HHS Spending Bill

November 5, 2015—The AAMC Oct. 30 called on congressional appropriators  “to provide the largest possible” allocation to the Labor-HHS-Education subcommittee for fiscal year (FY) 2016.

In a letter to the chairs and ranking members of the House and Senate Appropriations Committee, AAMC Chief Public Policy Officer Atul Grover, M.D., Ph.D., said, “Providing the largest possible allocation will allow for restoration of sequestration’s harmful cuts to national priorities such as medical research supported by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), health services research supported by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), and physician training through the Children’s Hospitals Graduate Medical Education program and the Title VII health professions programs.”

AAMC also urged Congress to pass a Labor-HHS bill that does not include any controversial policy riders.

The AAMC-led Ad Hoc Group for Medical Research  and Health Professions and Nursing Education Coalition wrote similar letters.
