On The Hill

October 30, 2015—Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) Oct. 29 was elected the 54th Speaker of the United States House of Representatives. He succeeds John Boehner (R-Ohio) who announced his resignation last month after a 24-year career in Congress, where he served the eighth congressional district of Ohio for nearly 13 terms.

Speaker Ryan won the election by 236 votes, garnering the support of all but nine of his GOP colleagues. Prior to his selection, Ryan chaired the House Budget Committee from 2011- Jan. 2015, when he became Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee.
