AAMC Among Hundreds of Organizations Expressing Support for AHRQ

October 23, 2015—AAMC Oct. 22 joined over 190 other organizations on a letter urging House and Senate Appropriations Committees to replace sequestration and restore the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality’s (AHRQ) budget authority to $364 million.

The House Appropriations Committee proposed terminating AHRQ in its fiscal year (FY) 2016 spending bill while the Senate Appropriations Committee proposed a 35 percent cut to AHRQ’s budget.

The community letter, organized by the Friends of AHRQ, calls on Congress to restore AHRQ’s budget authority to $364 million as they work to enact a final spending bill. The letter adds that AHRQ is the “only federal agency with the sole purpose of producing evidence to make health care safer; of higher quality; more accessible, equitable, and affordable; and to ensure that the evidence is understood and used.”

AAMC is a member of the Friends of AHRQ, a coalition of organizations representing patients, health care providers, public health professionals, hospitals, medical centers, delivery systems, health plans, employers, and scientists, working together to promote AHRQ’s continued role in improving the nation’s health [see Washington Highlights, January 31, 2014].
