The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Office of Research and Development is coordinating a week of events at local VA medical centers designed to call attention to the achievements of the VA researchers and the role they play in providing high quality care for veterans in advancing medical science.

May 19: Ways & Means Health Subcommittee Hearing on Medicare
10 a.m.; 1100 Longworth House Office Building, Washington, D.C.
The House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Health will hold a hearing on “Improving Competition in Medicare: Removing Moratoria and Expanding Access.” Witness testimony will be posted to the committee website when available.

May 20: HIT Standards Committee Meeting
9:30 a.m.; 10 Thomas Circle N.W., Washington, D.C.
The Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) for Health Information Technology (HIT) Standards Committee will meet to discuss recommendations on standards, implementation specifications, and certification criteria for the electronic exchange and use of health information.

May 20: Senate HELP Hearing on Reauthorizing Higher Ed Act
10 a.m.; 430 Dirksen Senate Office Building, Washington, D.C.
The Senate Health, Education, Labor & Pensions committee will hold a hearing titled, “Reauthorizing the Higher Education Act: Exploring Institutional Risk-sharing.” Witness testimony will be posted to the committee website when available.

May 20: House Oversight Hearing on ACA Implementation

The House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Oversight will hold a hearing titled, “Examining the Use of Administrative Actions in the Implementation of the Affordable Care Act.” Witness testimony will be posted to the committee website when available.

May 20: Joint VA Hearing
10 a.m.; 216 Hart Senate Office Building, Washington, D.C.
The Senate and House Veterans’ Affairs Committees will hold a joint hearing on Legislative Presentation of the Paralyzed Veterans of America; AMVETS; Military Officers Association of America; Military Order of the Purple Heart; Vietnam Veterans of America; Blinded Veterans Association; Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America; and Non Commissioned Officers Association. May 22: HIT Policy Committee Virtual Meeting
10:30 a.m.; Webinar
The Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) Health Information Technology (HIT) Policy Committee will meet via webinar to discuss recommendations on a policy framework for the development and adoption of a nationwide health information infrastructure, including standards for the exchange of patient medical information.
