AAMC Submits FY 2016 Funding Recommendations to Senate Appropriators

April 3, 2015— The AAMC April 3 submitted a written statement  for the record to the Senate Labor-HHS Appropriations Subcommittee recommending funding for federal priorities, including the National Institutes of Health (NIH), health professions training and education programs administered by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), and student aid through the Department of Education.

AAMC-led coalitions also submitted statements to the Senate Labor-HHS Appropriations Subcommittee. The Ad Hoc Group for Medical Research submitted a statement  on NIH funding that highlights scientific opportunities and describes how investments in “science and innovation are essential if we are to continue to improve our nation’s health, sustain our leadership in medical research, and remain competitive in today’s global information and innovation-based economy.”

The Health Professions and Nursing Education Coalition (HPNEC) submitted a statement  highlighting the need for a “strong, continued, and reliable commitment” to the Title VII and VIII programs, which play a “critical role in helping the workforce adapt to meet the nation’s changing health care needs.”
