House 21st Century Cures Initiative Seeks Input on Digital Health Care

June 20, 2014— The House Energy and Commerce 21st Century Cures Initiative June 17 released the fourth in a series of white papers seeking input from medical research stakeholders on strategies to get promising new treatments and cures to patients more quickly.

The latest white paper, entitled “Leveraging Technology to Advance the Discovery, Development, and Delivery of Better Treatments and Cures,” asks what Congress can do to improve the entire digital health care landscape.

Topics on which the committee is seeking input include the impact of mobile medical applications and other advances in communications technology, the legal or commercial barriers that might prevent these technologies from being used on a larger scale at both the point of care and for additional research and development activities, and how patient privacy may be affected by broader aggregation and more detailed data analysis.

On June 24, the committee also will host a 21st Century Cures roundtable to discuss what steps Congress can take to bridge the gap between these advances and the regulatory policies that govern them to advance digital and personalized health care.

Input and feedback on the white paper can be submitted to the committee through July 22.
