May 5: PCORI Board of Governors Meeting

The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) Board of Governors will meet to provide an update on its science processes, discuss the Addressing Disparities program, and assess its evaluation plan, among other items. The meeting is open to the public and will also be available via webinar/teleconference.

May 6: Senate Committee Hearing on President’s FY 2015 Education Budget

The Senate Budget Committee will hear testimony from Secretary of Education Arne Duncan regarding the president’s FY 2015 budget request for the Department of Education.

May 6: AAMC Briefing on Physician Workforce

The AAMC will host a briefing on the physician shortage and the federal policies that support physician workforce development. Speakers include: AAMC Chief Public Policy Officer Atul Grover, M.D., Ph.D., University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center Department of Neurological Surgery Chair H. Hunt Batjer, M.D., FACS, and NYU Langone Medical Center Primary Care-Internal Medicine Resident Meroë Morse, M.D.

May 7: Senate Subcommittee Hearing on President’s FY 2015 HHS Budget Request
10 a.m.; 138 Dirksen Senate Office Building, Washington, D.C.
The Senate Appropriations Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies Subcommittee will hold a hearing on proposed FY 2015 appropriations for the Department of Health and Human Services. Witnesses include Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Thomas Frieden, M.D., Ph.D.; Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Administrator Marilyn Tavenner; and Health Resources and Services Administration Administrator Mary Wakefield, Ph.D., R.N.; among others.

May 7: House Subcommittee Hearing on ACA Enrollment Data
10:15 a.m.; 2123 Rayburn House Office Building, Washington, D.C.
The House Energy and Commerce Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee will hold a hearing to examine health insurance enrollment data under the Affordable Care Act.

May 7: Senate Committee Hearing on the Fight Against Cancer
2:15 p.m.; 562 Dirksen Senate Office Building, Washington, D.C.
The Senate Special Committee on Aging will hold a hearing to examine the challenges, progress, and promise in the fight against cancer. Witnesses include National Cancer Institute Director Harold Varmus, M.D., and H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute Director Thomas Sellers, Ph.D., M.P.H, among others.

May 8: Senate HELP Committee Confirmation Hearing
10 a.m.; 430 Dirksen Senate Office Building, Washington, D.C.
The Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee will hold a confirmation hearing on the nomination of Sylvia Mathews Burwell to be Secretary of Health and Human Services.
