President Signs FY 2014 Omnibus, Prepares to Announce FY 2015 Priorities

January 24, 2014— President Barack Obama Jan. 17 signed into law the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2014 (P.L. 113-76), the omnibus spending package providing funding for the federal government for the remainder of FY 2014 [see Washington Highlights, Jan. 17, 2014].

The president is expected to identify national priorities for the coming year in the Jan. 28 State of the Union address. The address is scheduled just before the president’s FY 2015 budget proposal is due to Congress; however the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) has indicated plans to release the budget request on March 4, about a month after the statutory deadline, due to the delay in resolving the FY 2014 appropriations.
