Grayson Norquist To Chair PCORI Board of Governors

September 20, 2013—The U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) Sept. 19 announced the appointment of Grayson Norquist, M.D., MSPH, as chair of the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) Board of Governors.  Dr. Norquist is professor and chair, Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior, University of Mississippi Medical Center.

PCORI Executive Director Joe Selby, MD, MPH, welcomed Norquist to his new position in a Sept. 19 statement. Dr. Norquist, a psychiatrist whose research focuses on reducing disparities in mental health treatment, has been a member of PCORI's board since it was appointed by the GAO in September 2010.

GAO also announced the reappointment of Steven Lipstein, MHA, president and chief executive officer of BJC HealthCare, as the new vice chair.

Dr. Norquist replaces outgoing chair Eugene Washington, M.D., MSc, vice chancellor of UCLA Health Sciences and dean of the David Geffen School of Medicine [see Washington Highlights, May 20, 2011], who informed GAO earlier this year that he intended to step down as chair and leave the Board at the end of 2013.

The appointments are effective as Monday, Sept. 23, the date of the next PCORI board meeting.
