VA Convenes Work Groups on Sole Source Contracting, Seeks Volunteers

June 26, 2013—The Veterans Health Administration (VHA) office responsible for sole source contracting with academic affiliates for the provision of clinical services plans to convene four work groups to deal with critical areas related to contract relationships:

  • Contract pricing and documentation;
  • Contract performance and quality assurance, credentialing, and privileging;
  • Contract policy and information security; and
  • Training for affiliates.

The work groups will include members of the VHA Medical Sharing Office (MSO), which is responsible for contracting; the VHA Office of Academic Affiliations; and the VA Office of the Inspector General. Additionally, the VA is seeking representatives from medical schools to volunteer to serve on the work groups.

The work groups will build on three forums sponsored by the VA Office of Acquisition and Logistics and VHA MSO in the summer of 2012, held in Boston, Seattle, and St. Louis. The forums focused on the provision of services, including key processes and tools in the contracting process. The forums also served to identify key challenges that needed to be addressed in the future.
