HHS Launches New Web-Based Health Care Tool

May 18, 2012—The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) May 15 launched a new Web-based tool to allow consumers, providers, and policymakers to search for consistent information relating to access to care, cost and affordability, health information technology, and coverage, among other topics. The Health System Measurement Project incorporates data from multiple federal sources to provide the user with a more complete picture of the U.S. health care system.

The Web tool allows the user to compare data across multiple population characteristics, including race, age, insurance coverage, and income. The tool also is capable of displaying trends across quality measures, along with a comparison of national, regional, and state trends over the past decade. The website includes the original data sources, along with information on how the measures were calculated.
