Ad Hoc Group Calls for at Least $32 Billion for NIH in FY 2013

March 30, 2012—The AAMC joined 211 organizations from the medical research community on March 26 letter led by the Ad Hoc Group for Medical Research to both the House and Senate Labor-HHS Appropriations Subcommittee leaders urging Congress to provide “at least $32 billion” for the NIH in FY 2013. The letter states that this funding recommendation “represents the minimum investment necessary to avoid further loss of promising research and at the same time allows the NIH’s budget to keep pace with biomedical inflation.”

The coalition also submitted a written statement for the record to the House Labor-HHS Appropriations Subcommittee. Led by the AAMC, the Ad Hoc Group is a coalition representing patient and voluntary health groups, medical and scientific societies, academic and research organizations, and industry.
