PCORI Board of Governors Votes on Revised Patient-Centered Outcomes Definition

March 9, 2012—At its March 5 meeting, the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) Board of Governors voted to accept revisions to its definition of “patient-centered outcomes.” The board made changes to several aspects of the definition, based on public feedback received by PCORI. Question four was extensively modified and now reads, “How can clinicians and the care delivery systems they work in help me make the best decisions about my health and healthcare?”

Funding awards related to the pilot grant proposals will be announced in May. The PCORI Funding Announcements (PFA) timeline was presented in detail, and upcoming solicitations based on the first four national priorities [see Washington Highlights, Jan. 27] are expected later this spring. The public comment period on the national priorities and research agenda extends until March 15.

The board heard an update from the Methodology Committee about progress on the Methodology Report, due to the board in May. The draft Methodology Report will be made available for public comment after presentation to the board. The report will guide future requests for proposals.
