Feb. 7: Ways and Means Subcommittee Hearing on Physician Payments

The House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Health will hold a hearing to explore how private sector payers are rewarding physicians who deliver high quality and efficient care and potential ways to reform Medicare’s physician payment system.

Feb. 7: Health IT Meaningful Use Workgroup Meeting
10 a.m.; Webcast
The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (HIT) Meaningful Use Workgroup will meet to discuss recommendations on how to define meaningful use in the short- and long-term; ways electronic health records (EHRs) can support meaningful use; and how providers can demonstrate meaningful use.

Feb. 7: JEC Hearing on Reauthorizing the Payroll Tax Cut
2:30 p.m.; 216 Hart Senate Office Building; Washington, D.C.
The U.S. Congress Joint Economic Committee (JEC) will hold a hearing entitled, “Bolstering the Economy: Helping American Families by Reauthorizing the Payroll Tax Cut and Unemployment Insurance Benefits.” The hearing will focus on the importance of extending the payroll tax cuts and continuing emergency federal unemployment insurance benefits through the end of 2012. The hearing will also examine the economic impact of extending these policies versus allowing them to lapse.

Feb. 7: PCAST Undergraduate STEM Education Report Release Event
3 p.m.; 1200 New York Avenue N.W., Washington, D.C.
The President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST) will release at a public briefing a report offering strategies for improving science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education during the first two years of college. The event will also be accessible through a live webcast.
