PCORI Requests Reviewers for Pilot Projects Grant Program

October 21, 2011—The Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) Oct. 12 released a request seeking merit reviewers to evaluate proposals for their initial round of funding. PCORI announced its initial round of funding in September [see Washington Highlights, Sept. 23] and expects proposals to be submitted by December. In a demonstrated commitment to inclusivity of patients’ perspective in research, the institute has invited non-traditional reviewers who could provide patient oriented insights during the review. In addition to scientists with research experience, PCORI also seeks to include patients, family members, members of health advocacy organizations and clinical health care providers who may not have had research and reviewer experience.

For potential reviewers who have not yet participated in a merit review process, training will be provided. Those who wish to participate in the review groups must be available to attend a February 2012 meeting in Washington, D.C.  Housing, travel and food expenses are eligible for reimbursement and a $200 honorarium will be provided to review participants.
