Reps. Michael Burgess, MD, (R-Texas), Diana DeGette (D-Colo.), Brian Fitzpatrick (R-Penn.), and Jim Langevin (D-R.I.) March 28 submitted a bipartisan Dear Colleague Letter to the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies advocating for $424 million in funding in fiscal year (FY) 2020 for the Health Resources and Services Administration’s (HRSA) Title VII Health Professions programs.

The letter, which was signed by 75 other Representatives, advocates for Title VII programs which are federal programs designed to fill gaps in the supply of health professionals, respond to the needs of special and underserved populations, and increase minority representation in the health care workforce. The letter highlights how support for these programs will ensure that the distribution, quality, and diversity of our nation's health professions workforce continues to improve, and that the workforce is prepared to meet the country's evolving and emerging health care needs.

The Health Professions and Nursing Education Coalition, which is managed by the AAMC, is recommending of $690 million for both HRSA Titles VII health professions and VIII nursing workforce development programs in FY 2020.
