The Trump Administration June 29 announced its nomination of Jerome M. Adams, MD for U.S. Surgeon General. Dr. Adams, an Anesthesiologist, has served as Indiana’s Health Commissioner since 2014.
Previously, Dr. Adams served as both a professor of anesthesiology and as a provider of anesthesia at Indiana University School of Medicine. He has been recognized with several awards including the Policy Advocate of the Year award from the Indiana Rural Health Association, the Achievement in Professions Award from the Indiana Center for Leadership Development, and the Indiana Minority Health Coalition Trailblazer Award from the Indiana Minority Health Coalition. During his tenure as Commissioner, Dr. Adams has been heavily involved in crafting Indiana’s response to both HIV and the state’s opioid epidemic.
Dr. Adams’ nomination now heads to the Senate for confirmation.
