Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) Sylvia Matthews Burwell announced March 12 that Mary Wakefield, Ph.D., R.N., administrator, Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), will serve as the Acting Deputy Secretary of HHS.
In an email to the department, Burwell praised Wakefield for “improv[ing] access to health for millions of patients, strengthening America’s health care workforce, and moderniz[ing] HRSA’s organizations infrastructure.”
Wakefield has served as HRSA Administrator for the past five years. HRSA Associate Administrator for Primary Health Care Jim Macrae will serve as the Acting HRSA Administrator.
