In a May 5 “dear colleague” letter, Senators Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) and Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) announced that they would co-chair a new bipartisan Senate National Institutes of Health (NIH) Caucus.
According to the letter, the NIH Caucus seeks “a bipartisan strategy to restore the purchasing power that NIH has lost and provide steady, predictable growth for biomedical research in the future.” The letter notes the caucus will be “an opportunity for senators to educate their colleagues about the importance of NIH.”
In a statement, AAMC President and CEO Darrell Kirch, M.D., thanked Senators Graham and Durbin for their leadership in forming the caucus.
