The AAMC, American Hospital Association, Federation of American Hospitals, and America’s Essential Hospitals Jan. 28 submitted an amicus brief to the U.S. Supreme Court in King v. Burwell, the latest case that challenges the Affordable Care Act (ACA, P.L. 111-148 and P.L. 111-152).
As the AAMC’s brief states, “Petitioners’ position [that Congress intended to provide subsidies only to individuals residing in states that established their own exchanges], if accepted would be a disaster for millions of lower- and middle-income Americans. The ACA’s subsidies have made it possible for more than 9 million men, women, and children to have health care coverage—some for the first time in years; some, no doubt, for the first time in their lives.”
The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear arguments March 4.
