The AAMC submitted comments on May 24 to the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) about the agency’s proposed strategic framework for the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Trust Fund. AHRQ’s proposed framework is structured to include a mission, overarching vision, high-level goal, high-level priorities and desired outcomes, and cross-cutting strategies for achieving the desired outcomes.

In its comments, the association expressed support of the proposed framework and agreed “that the high-level priorities AHRQ has identified in the strategic framework address areas of importance for the future of health care delivery.” The AAMC highlighted the particular focus on health equity, patient and community engagement, trustworthiness, provider wellness, and learning health systems development and advancement.

The association also referenced comments it previously submitted to the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) related to the institute’s Proposed National Priorities for Health (refer to Washington Highlights, Aug. 27, 2021) and its proposed research agenda (refer to Washington Highlights, Feb. 4), as the information could also be relevant to AHRQ’s proposed strategic framework.
