    This page includes resources about COVID-19 and medical research, organized by the AAMC Scientific Affairs division.

    Topic areas include research and research training across the spectrum of basic, clinical, and translational studies, as well as the impact on academic medical centers, health equity, and clinician well-being and resilience. Key updates and opportunities for learning and engagement are listed below and current information is sent out several times a week via AAMC newsletters (subscription below). The latest federal policies and information related to COVID-19 are also available here, with a specific focus on the agencies that are involved in COVID-19 research, testing and the public health response.

    • Webinar: COVID-19 Research in States with Rural and Underserved Populations: Highlights from the IDeA Program (February 26) – 

      The Institutional Development Award (IDeA) Program strengthens research capacity in states that receive lower levels of National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the program’s grantees have been conducting invaluable research and this webinar, hosted by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), will feature three examples of the important work.

    • AAMC Calls for Enhanced COVID-19 Data Collection on Health Disparities – AAMC urged the federal government to work with communities to collect national, standardized race, ethnicity, and social determinant data that is geographically specific and patient-centered. (April 10, 2020)

    COVID-19 Research Studies

    A current list of COVID-19 clinical trials can be found at ClinicalTrials.gov:

    Using data available on ClinicalTrials.gov (as of 5/8/20), AAMC compiled a list of diagnostic and interventional COVID-19 clinical trials being conducted at academic medical centers and teaching hospitals, providing an overview of the characteristics of trials currently underway at academic medical centers.
