Federal Grants

Health and Human Services: Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

“CDC’s Collaboration with Academia to Strengthen Public Health Workforce Capacity” provides $268,911 for the fifth year of a five-year cooperative agreement that supports enhanced teaching concepts of population health and provides practical, hands-on experience at the community level for public health, medical, and nursing students.

“AAMC Improving Clinical and Public Health Outcomes through National Partnerships to Prevent and Control Emerging and Re-Emerging Infectious Disease Threats” provides $1,250,000 for the third award period of a five-year cooperative agreement that supports strategies to build confidence in COVID-19 vaccines among health care personnel and communities that are disproportionately impacted by COVID-19.

Health and Human Services: National Institutes of Health

“Faculty Roster” is a five-year, $3,250,726 contract (whose costs are split 50:50 between NIH and the AAMC) that supports a continuously updated database with comprehensive information on the educational, employment, and demographic backgrounds of faculty members at medical schools in the United States.

“AAMC Career Development Program for Maximizing Opportunities for Scientific and Academic Independent Careers (MOSAIC) Scholars” provides $375,300 for the third year of a five-year cooperative agreement that supports a multichannel education program for cohorts of National Institutes of Health (NIH)-awarded K99/R00 scholars.

TRANSforming Bio-Medical Research & Academic Faculty through Opportunity, TRaining, & Mentorship (TRANSFORM) is a subaward through the University of Pittsburgh that provides $85,645 for the first year of an expected five-year cooperative agreement, to partner in the creation of a longitudinal faculty career and leadership development program that builds upon the success of the existing AAMC Mid-Career Minority Faculty Leadership Development Program.

National Endowment for the Humanities

“The Fundamental Role of the Humanities and Arts in Medical Education” is a three-year, $392,928 award that supports the planning for and creation of a monograph, curricular and evaluative resources, and faculty professional development opportunities for integrating the humanities and arts into education in the medical professions.

The Arnold P. Gold Foundation

The foundation provides annual funding in support of the Arnold P. Gold Foundation in Medicine Award, which is awarded at Learn Serve Lead: The AAMC Annual Meeting.

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois

“Black Men in Medicine Illinois” is a multiyear $300,000 award to support pilot programs within Illinois in partnership with the Action Collaborative for Black Men in Medicine, which is a joint effort of the AAMC and the National Medical Association’s Action Collaborative.

The California Wellness Foundation

“Diversity and Inclusion Culture & Climate Self-Assessment Tool and Scorecard” is a multiyear $325,000 grant to develop and pilot a Diversity and Inclusion Culture & Climate Self-Assessment tool and scorecard at eight urban-based, undergraduate public universities and graduate medical and health professional schools in California, and inform legislative and educational policymakers about the pilot as a strategy for increasing the number of underrepresented minorities in the health care workforce.

Patrick and Catherine Weldon Donaghue Medical Research Foundation

“Building Learning Health Systems at the Point of Care” is a two-year $140,000 award to support an evaluation of Donaghue Greater Value Portfolio awardees and a convening to share models of learning health system design.

“Summer Health Professions Education Program” is a two-year $1,998,983 award to support technical assistance and direction to help increase diversity in health fields, as its predecessor, the Summer Medical and Dental Education Program, did for more than 24,000 students.

The Otho S. A. Sprague Memorial Institute

Chicago-Pilot – Building a Premedical Advising System to Advance Workforce Diversity” is a 16-month $95,400 award to support the development, planning, and implementation of a pilot project in association with the Action Collaborative for Black Men in Medicine, which is a joint effort of the AAMC and the National Medical Association’s Action Collaborative.

The Sandra & Arnold Gold Humanism Research Fund

The Fund provided a multiyear $8,000 award to host dinner meetings and receptions during Learn Serve Lead: The AAMC Annual Meeting to connect and inform diverse stakeholders who are active researchers investigating the role of humanism within medicine and medical education.
