Leading national and international workforce experts convened April 29–May 1, 2009, in Washington, D.C., for the AAMC's Fifth Annual Physician Workforce Research Conference. The conference is part of the association's ongoing efforts to monitor, analyze, and advance research on the U.S. physician supply.

The purpose and objectives of the conference are to:

  • Share the latest research and findings on physician workforce supply and demand.

  • Improve understanding of workforce implications of health care reform, changes in efficiency and productivity, specialty choice, use of non-physician clinicians, and recruitment and retention issues.

  • Refine research methods for measuring workforce supply and demand.

  • Foster collaboration among physician workforce researchers.
