Radiation Oncology

Nature of the work

A radiation oncologist is a doctor who deals with the therapeutic applications of radiant energy and its modifiers, and the study and management of disease, especially malignant tumors.1

Radiation oncologists can receive training in the following subspecialty:

  • Hospice and Palliative Medicine - prevent and relieve the suffering experienced by patients with life-limiting illnesses.

Training/residency information

The residency training program for radiation oncology is five years.

Salary information

The annual salary for oncologists ranges from $357,000 to $463,293.2
