AMCAS 2009 FAQs

7. Applying to Special Programs

  1. How do I apply to two programs at the same school?

Applicants cannot designate multiple program types for a single medical school in the AMCAS application. Applicants who wish to apply to multiple programs at a single school should contact the medical school directly.

  2. How do I apply to a Special Program, such as Early Assurance, Combined BA / MD Program, Deferred / Delayed Matriculants, and other special programs?

You may not designate this Program type unless the medical school has advised you to do so. Selecting this Program type without permission may result in:

    • Missing deadlines for Program types to which you can apply
    • Loss of application fees paid for this Program Type

Applicants to Special Programs are required to complete a full AMCAS application and submit official transcripts to AMCAS. These applicants will not be charged a fee for that one school designation.

Special Program applications will be placed on HOLD until AMCAS confirms with the appropriate medical school that the applicant is a "Special Program" applicant. If, however, the medical school indicates that the applicant should not be applying through the selected program, AMCAS will contact the applicant. In addition, AMCAS requires new transcripts every year, and you must provide new transcripts for Special Programs.
