AMCAS 2009 FAQs

14. Enabling JavaScript and "Cookies"

  1. What is JavaScript and how do I enable it?
  2. JavaScript is a cross-platform WWW scripting language. JavaScript is employed by the AMCAS application, and can be used for things such as "rollover buttons" (graphics that change color when you run your mouse over them), rotating banners, pop-up windows, etc. Certain application functions will not work properly unless JavaScript is enabled.

To make certain that JavaScript is enabled in your browser,

    Internet Explorer (IE) users should:

    • Select the Tools option on your IE toolbar
    • Choose "Internet Options" from the drop down menu
    • Click on the "Security" tab
    • Click on the "Custom Level..." button
    • In Security Settings window, scroll down to "Scripting of Java Applets"
    • Click on the "Enable" radio button

    Netscape users should:

    • Select the Edit option on your Netscape toolbar
    • Choose "Preferences" from the drop down menu
    • In the Preferences window's left-side menu, click on "Advanced"
    • Click on the boxes to the left of "Enable Java," "Enable JavaScript" and "Enable JavaScript for Mail and News"
