The ten (10) Travel Awards of $500 each are funded by an NIH Meeting Grant to the University of Colorado HSC MST Program. The intent of these travel awards is to increase the attendance of diversity students to the 15th Annual National MD/PhD Conference. Diversity students are broadly defined as underrepresented minority, 1st time college, and/or rural backgrounds. By providing this support, we hope that MD/PhD Program Directors will be able to support more of their students to attend the Conference. Program Directors nominated individual diversity students from their program to apply for these awards.

Recipients of the 10 Travel Awards were chosen on a competitive basis by a review committee of five MD/PhD Program Directors with a broad regional representation. The key criterion for selection was the Abstract submitted by the Diversity applicant describing his/her recent scientific work. For incoming and 1st year MD/PhD students, this was considered to be research work completed as undergraduates or technicians, whereas more senior MD/PhD students could submit work accomplished either during a laboratory rotation or as part of their thesis project.
