2 or more years (realistically 3 - 5 years)

Thesis Requirement
Yes. K23 grant proposal is defended in a qualifying exam at the end of the first year then a thesis is written after the research has been conducted.

Goals
They are expected to be able to write a K23 grant proposal, to be able to come up with succinct, testable hypotheses that will not lead to a dead end. They should be capable of analyzing their data. They should be able to read the experimental literature with a critical eye. They should have an understanding of biostatistics. They should be able to critically appraise others' research proposals and hypotheses, even when they're not in the same field. They should have a sound understanding of experimental design.

Master of Science in Clinical Research

Eligibility
Advanced degree in health-related field: MD, DO, PhD in a related field, DDS, DMD, DMD, RPh, PharmD; or Bachelor's or Master's degree accompanied by experience in a health-related field with a GPA of > 3.0 and previous work experience in a health-related field, such as nursing, psychology, dietetics, etc.

Duration
The degree can be completed in a minimum of 2 years but can take as long as 4 years depending on the amount of time a student devotes to the program.

Thesis Requirement
The thesis may include 1 or more projects (research studies) that should result in at least one manuscript or grant submission.

Goals
This MS degree program is designed as a focused, flexible, and affordable program to train clinical investigators in designing and conducting patient-oriented research of exemplary quality.

All fellows, faculty and staff of UTHSCSA and applicants with only a baccalaureate degree in health related discipline must have a cumulative grade point average of no lower than 3.0 and combined scores (verbal and quantitative) on the GRE of at least 1000.

2 years (full time) or 3-4 years (part time)

Goals
The MSCI program consists of 10 integrated courses and a mentored research project. The total number of credit hours required to obtain the MSCI degree is 30. Acceptance into the program is contingent on having a research mentor and a preliminary research project proposal. Each candidate's mentor, division chief, and department chair must provide a letter of support assuring that the trainee will have the time to devote to their educational and research activities.
