The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ)
AHRQ provides evidence-based information on health care outcomes; quality; cost, use, and access. Its Center for Quality Improvement and Patient Safety designs and evaluates patient safety measures. AHRQ's Morbidity and Mortality Rounds on the Web features expert analysis of medical errors reported anonymously by readers. AHRQ also sponsors the National Quality Measures Clearinghouse which is a public repository for evidence-based quality measures and measure sets.

Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI)
IHI is a non-profit organization devoted to making dramatic improvements in health care delivery which will enhance clinical outcomes and reduce costs.

Institute of Medicine (IOM)
As part of the National Academy of Sciences the IOM provides independent advice and research to national leaders about issues pertaining to medicine and public health.

National Quality Forum (NQF)
The NQF is a non-profit membership organization working to build consensus among all stakeholders about a national strategy for health care quality measurement and reporting.

Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO)
JCAHO is the dominant standards-setting and accrediting body in health care. They evaluate accredit nearly 17,000 health care organizations and programs.

National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA)
The NCQA is an accreditation body for the managed care industry. It publicly reports on the quality of the nation's managed care plans through its accreditation and performance measurement programs.

Premier Patient Safety Institute
Premier is a hospital and health system alliance. Its patient safety institute highlights resources from its membership and other organizations.

Leapfrog Group
The Leapfrog Group is a coalition of more than 140 public and private organizations that provide health care benefits. Its goal is to use employer purchasing power to spark improvements in health care quality and patient safety.

American Health Quality Association (AHQA)
The AHQA represents Quality Improvement Organizations (QIOs) throughout the country. QIOs share information about best practices with physicians, hospitals, and nursing homes.

National Patient Safety Foundation
The National Patient Safety Foundation is committed to increasing public awareness about patient safety issues through research and education.

National Association for Healthcare Quality (NAHQ)
NAHQ provides resources and information for healthcare professionals working in the quality field. Its publication, The Journal for Healthcare Quality, covers improvement, risk management, utilization review, and the latest in legislation and regulations

Quality Interagency Coordination Task Force (QuIC)
QuIC's mission is to ensure all federal agencies involved in health care are working in a coordinated fashion toward the goal of improving health care quality.

Foundation for Accountability (FACCT)
FACCT develops consumer focused materials to educate people about health care quality issues and how to use quality information in decision making.
