New Host Institutions Accepting VSAS Applications in 2010!

In addition to more U.S. AAMC member schools joining VSAS as host institutions in 2010, VSAS has expanded availability to members of the AAMC's Council of Teaching Hospitals and Health Systems (COTH) through a pilot program this year.

The Visiting Student Application Service (VSAS) is an AAMC application designed to streamline the application process for senior "away" electives at other U.S. LCME medical schools and independent academic medical centers that are members of the Council of Teaching Hospitals and Health Systems (COTH). This service requires students to submit just one application for all institutions, effectively reducing paperwork, miscommunication, and time. VSAS also provides a centralized location for managing offers and tracking decisions. It was created at the request of two GSA committees: Committee on Student Records (COSR) and Committee on Student Affairs (COSA).

When can I use VSAS?

After first launching in April 2008, VSAS will remain open indefinitely.

  • Access VSAS: You may log in to VSAS once your home school issues you authorizations.

  • Submit applications: You may submit applications only after a VSAS host institution makes their electives available for application. This application date will vary from institution to institution so use your VSAS "Institutions" tab to research these dates.

Do I need to use VSAS?

You will only use VSAS if you are enrolled at a U.S. LCME medical school and are applying for senior away electives at any of the following host institutions. Review VSAS host institution application requirements, when the institution will begin accepting applications, fee information, and more by clicking on an institution's name (our new host institutions will be linked to their institution information pages in mid-February)!
