FIRST for Financial Aid Officers

In an increasingly complex financial climate, financial aid officers must continue to provide their students with timely information and a wide range of services. FIRST for Medical Education offers a range of resources designed to:

  • Support FAOs in helping students achieve financial literacy and borrow wisely

  • Advise their students on effectively managing their education debt

  • Advance the FAO professional development with targeted financial literacy and debt management curriculum

  • Provide timely information on legislative and regulatory issues

FIRST News Archive
Exclusively for AAMC member school financial aid offices, FIRST News is sent periodically and provides important reminders and updates on new program resources. To subscribe to FIRST News please send your full contact information to first@aamc.org.

FIRST Facts
Short informational sheets on a variety of financial aid related topics. FIRST Facts are designed to let students know just what they need to know about a subject, reducing often confusing or complex topics to the basics.

Government Affairs - Education
AAMC Web site highlighting topics, issues and legislation of importance to medical schools and teaching hospitals.

NCHELP - National Council of Higher Education Loan Programs
The initiatives page provides access to the webinar on IBR, and other new programs as they become available.

Resources
Guides, publications, and Web resources to help students understand financial aid. Multiple copies of FIRST publications are available free of charge to AAMC member institutions through AAMC Publications.

Tools
Interactive Web tools including financial calculators and an interactive budget worksheet.

Lender Assessment Tool
The purpose of the Lender Assessment Tool is to provide data for financial aid offices to use in support of their selection of lenders for a preferred lender list. Log in for access.

Debt Management Workshops
On site workshops on managing student loans and loan consolidation are offered by AAMC staff for residents at teaching hospitals across the country.
