Smallpox Teleconference
In February 2003, the AAMC's
Council of Teaching Hospitals and Health Systems held a telephone
teleconference addressing the issues around the idea of Smallpox
inoculation of "first responders" from among the health care workforce.
The speakers discussed several issues including:
- What is known about smallpox, its treatment, and its possible
use as a bioterrorist weapon;
- The development of a policy on workforce vaccination by Virginia
Commonwealth University; and
- The process of decision-making about workforce vaccination
used by hospitals in and around New York City.
