Medicine Behind Bars: Texas' Telemedicine Experiment Telemedicine helps prisons comply with a court order mandating standardized and uniform health care for inmates. Prison units vary in size from 500 to 4,000, and smaller units often only have nurses or nurse practitioners onsite.
