Gates Foundation Gives $40 Million for Vaccine Development: The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has awarded grants of $20 million each to the University of Maryland School of Medicine and the Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health to develop a measles vaccine for infants. University of Miami to Create Genetics Research Center: With a $12.5 million grant from the Dr. John T. Macdonald Foundation, the University of Miami School of Medicine will build a new genetics research center and fund a signature program in public school health. Doris Duke Foundation Gives Millions to Researchers: The Doris Duke Charitable Foundation awarded more than $9 million to recipients of the Doris Duke Clinical Scientist Development Award and the Doris Duke Innovation in Clinical Research Award. Information: Kelly Small, (212) 974-7000.

Frank Family Pledges $10 Million to the University of Chicago: The Mrs. Zollie S. Frank Continuity Fund at the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago has pledged $10 million to provide scholarships for students in the University of Chicago's M.D./ Ph.D. program.
