Academic Medical Centers' Ability to Care for the Uninsured at Risk, Finds Commonwealth Fund Report: Titled "A Shared Responsibility: Aca-demic Health Centers and the Provision of Care to the Poor and Uninsured," a new report by the Commonwealth Fund Task Force on Academic Health Centers concludes that the growing number of uninsured is having a serious effect on academic medical centers' ability to continue providing free care to vulnerable populations. The initiative will be housed at Northwestern as part of the university's new Center for Functional Genomics but will operate in conjunction with sites at Columbia University, Duke University, and the University of Iowa. Information: Megan Fellman, (847) 491-3115….Cornell University to Open Medical College in Qatar: Qatar, a small Middle Eastern nation in the Persian Gulf region, will be the location of Weill Cornell Medical College. The new medical college will offer a complete medical education in Qatar leading to a Cornell University M.D. degree based on the same admission standards and curriculum as the New York campus. Dullea or Myrna Manners, (607) 255-9029 or (212) 821-0563.…UHC and AAMC to Offer Web-Based Practice Management Tools: University HealthSystem Consortium (UHC), an alliance of the clinical enterprises of 85 academic health centers, and the AAMC have announced a collective endeavor to develop a consolidated offering of Web-based knowledge resources and benchmarking tools to support their members' faculty physician clinical practice management efforts.
