Stanford vies for Web position Stanford University has spun off a for-profit online search engine, e-SKOLAR, which will allow physicians nationwide to perform searches across multiple medical references, including textbooks, medical journals, and drug databases.
Doctors can also earn CME credit online through an Internet-based service known as Stanford SKOLAR, M.D. The site boasts that it is "simply the easiest way for physicians to integrate patient care with continuing education."
The School of Medicine collaborates on content and oversight of the Web site, an evolution of Stanford's Health Information Network for Education (SHINE). Stanford physicians use the service, and e-SKOLAR aims to provide doctors around the country with the same supplementary information available at the point of care. Physicians and medical groups can subscribe to the Web site for $240 per user.
