In an unprecedented initiative to prepare health care professionals
to respond to the new reality of bioterrorism and the significant
public health threat it poses, the AAMC has spearheaded a
new initiative called "First Contact, First Response."

In the wake of the Bayh-Dole Act of 1980, the past two decades
have seen unprecedented growth in the number of relationships
between academic medicine and the private sector, reflecting
energetic efforts to bring medical innovations to the marketplace.
